Rutgers' successful reaccreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education began in 2006 with a universitywide self-study that culminated on June 26, 2008, when the commission accepted the university's Periodic Review Report. The Rutgers community engaged in a deliberative and participatory process spanning two years, emerging with a self-study that affirmed the university's commitment to accountability and paved a path for future growth and fulfillment of the state university’s mission. The Middle States Commission's initial evaluation lauded the university's significant achievements and progress over the decade since the last reaccreditation process and made several suggestions designed to help Rutgers achieve further excellence.
This Special Report is the first in a periodic series of publications taking an in-depth look at issues of importance to the Rutgers community.
