The next generation of principals for Camden city’s schools is receiving intensive training at Rutgers–Camden.
Seventeen Camden school district employees enrolled in the new Educational Policy and Leadership Track within the Rutgers–Camden master of public administration (MPA) program are engaging in coursework emphasizing such areas as policy analysis, leadership strategies, communication skills and systemic school reform. Upon completion, graduates will earn a Rutgers MPA degree and fulfill the requirements for a certificate of eligibility as a school principal.
Sponsored by the Camden Board of Education and the Graduate School–Camden, and endorsed by the New Jersey Department of Education, the program offers an innovative remedy to an increasing need for highly trained school principals.
“Rutgers–Camden has a tradition of excellence in training public leaders,” said Marie Cornelia, associate dean of the Graduate School–Camden. “We’re pleased to adapt our rigorous MPA program to meet the training needs of our state’s public schools. This is the type of service that New Jerseyans should expect from their premier research university.”
