Rutgers honors its inventors

Rutgers’ Office of Corporate Liaison and Technology Transfer honored faculty, students, postdoctoral associates and staff who were recently granted patents as a result of their university research at the sixth Biennial Rutgers Patent Award Dinner April 18. “Patents are only awarded after a rigorous, objective examination by the United States Patent and Trademark Office,” OCLTT Director William T. Adams told the 48 honorees. “Rutgers recognizes the importance of patenting and the strong and original nature of the research it represents.” Patents are the major asset that Rutgers uses to transfer technology to industry and generate income that enables the inventors and their departments or units to conduct further research. Some of the patents issued to Rutgers inventors in 2005 drew upon research in biomaterials, wireless electronic technology, cancer-fighting compounds and biosensors.
