NSF awards $4 million Archived article from Dec 14, 2001 By Joseph Blumberg   Five Rutgers research teams have been awarded close to $4 million through the highly competitive National Science Foundation (NSF) Information Technology Research program. Now in its second year, the NSF program is granting $156 million to 309 recipients nationwide to develop innovative uses of information technology in science and engineering. "Competition for these grants was incredibly intense," said Joseph J. Seneca, university vice president for academic affairs. "It is affirming to see the quality of our proposals and our faculty recognized at this highest level of competition." Recipients are: Liviu Iftode, assistant professor of computer science, $1.4 million over four years Doyle Knight, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, $1.2 million over three years Professor Dale Haidvogel and research scientist Hernan Arango of the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences, $762,000 Assistant Professor Manish Parashar of the department of electrical and computer engineering and the Center for Advanced Information Processing, $337,500 Statistics Professor David Madigan, $245,000.
