"I am proud to see Jim Flanagan honored once again for his outstanding contributions to the field of scientific research and development," said President Francis L. Lawrence. "He richly deserves such recognition for his work, which has had a seminal influence on the information age. He continues to show exemplary concern for the practical application of basic research to pressing social needs."
Flanagan has been widely recognized for his innovative work in voice communications, computer techniques and electroacoustic systems.
