Design teams exhibit visions of College Avenue campus

Archived article from Mar 20, 2006

The conceptual models created by the five architectural design teams selected as part of President Richard L. McCormick’s vision to transform the College Avenue campus will be on display for the public at the “Vision for College Avenue Campus Design Competition Exhibition.” The models will be on exhibit April 7 through July 9 at the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum.

In January, the university selected five accomplished architecture and landscape design firms to develop an “innovative approach” to transform Rutgers’ historic College Avenue campus. The design teams, selected from a group of 15, include experts from the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, art, urban planning, horticulture and other relevant disciplines.

A jury of representatives from the Rutgers community, as well as architecture, landscape design and urban planning professionals, will evaluate the five proposals. The winning team will be selected by the end of April to begin designing Rutgers’ new public open space. The master plan will be developed starting this fall, with opportunities for the university community to play a role.

The “Vision for College Avenue Campus Design Competition Exhibition” can be viewed at the Zimmerli Art Museum Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
