Gov. Jon S. Corzine named Carl E. Van Horn chair of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority. He is the first member appointed by the governor to the authority.
Van Horn, professor of public policy at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy and director of the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers, is widely acclaimed for his contributions to the field of urban policy and economic development. His professional experience includes appointments to President Bill Clinton’s Presidential Emergency Board and as a senior policy adviser to Gov. Jim Florio.
The Economic Development Authority provides financial assistance to businesses and school facilities projects, and undertakes economic development projects in urban areas. The authority is in, but not part of, the state Department of Treasury.
“Dr. Van Horn brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the authority,” Corzine said. “He will undoubtedly be a great asset to our team as we work to build a stronger economy in all parts of the state.”
