A pro-Israel rally drew some 4,000 people and more than 100 protestors to the Busch campus Thursday evening, Oct. 9, as well as a roster of public officials, including Gov. James E. McGreevey and Sens. Frank Lautenberg and Jon Corzine.
The “Israel Inspires” rally, sponsored by the Hillel campus ministry, was the starting point for a long weekend of activities. On Saturday, Oct. 11, New Jersey Solidarity–Rutgers Chapter, a pro-Palestinian student group, held a conference at the Ramada Inn in North Brunswick and a rally on the Douglass campus, while the Rutgers Hillel student group ran a conference at the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick. Plans for these events sparked intense debate on campus and in the community.
