Publications FAQs
What factors should I consider when I’m planning a publication?
See Planning Communications Projects for universal considerations and Planning Your Publication for key points when planning a printed publication. Taking time to plan pays off in the end.

How can Creative Services help with my publication?
Creative Services’ Editorial & Design Services unit offers a full range of services from project planning and management through production. Working with seasoned professionals who know the university inside-out, results in a high-quality, effective, and impressive end product (and makes your life easier, too!).

How can I work with Creative Services?
A project manager will guide you through the entire process if you work with Creative Services. Call or email Jeanne Weber (732/445-3710, ext. 6409), Director, for more information.

How much does a project cost?
There are many variables that determine the cost of a project. Estimates are based on design services (concept development, design, production, typesetting, printouts), imagery, writing, proofreading, and printing costs. Each project requires a custom estimate.

How long will my project take?
Schedules are determined on a case-by-case basis. Projects can take as little as two weeks or as much as a year, depending on complexity.

What if I’ve had my publication designed elsewhere and just need printing?
Print-ready projects or those requiring limited design assistance are handled by Rutgers Mail & Document Services. Mail & Document Services may print the project in-house or gather competitive bids from outside printers and purchase the work for you.

How long does it take to get something printed?
Generally, expect 10 working days for a simple project (1–4 pages, 1–2 colors) and 15-plus working days for a complex project (multiple pages, colors, and images).

What if I want to reprint a previously produced publication?
Be sure you know how many copies you want to print and consider carefully if you want to make any revisions to the previous printing. Revisions take longer and cost more than an exact reprint. How much additional time/money depends on the extent of the changes. Call or email Jeanne Weber (732/445-3710, ext. 6409), Director, for more information.

I saw a picture in another university brochure. Can I use it in my brochure?
It depends on who owns the photo and how it can be used. Jeanne Weber (732/445-3710, ext 6409), Director, can guide you in how to obtain the image and determine the usage rights and cost
