A taskforce of communicators representing the Camden, Newark, and New Brunswick campuses, schools, and administrative units was convened to look at ways to improve communications at Rutgers. The taskforce recommended the creation of a universitywide network of communications professionals to assist those professionals as they promote their individual school, unit, department, or center and the university as a whole.
What is the Communicators Network?
The Communicators Network is a Department of University Relations initiative that links communications professionals throughout the university. The Communicators Network is open to all Rutgers employees who perform communications functions. It is a forum to share ideas, information, and resources, and provides guidance, tools, and support to Rutgers' various units to help them reach their communications and public relations goals. University Relations will host periodic meetings on topics of interest to the members of the Communicators Network as well as monitor a listserve for those members who wish to exchange ideas and discuss issues using this electronic network.
The purpose of the communicators network is:
- to share information, ideas, tools, standards, and resources to aid all members in doing their assigned jobs;
- to coordinate the dissemination of consistent messages to target audiences; and
- to otherwise foster collaboration among units, schools, campuses, and the central communications office to better advance the mission, people, and programs of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
- to share ideas, materials, and communication strategies with other Rutgers communicators;
- to participate in planning universitywide communications initiatives;
- to attend periodic meetings hosted by University Relations relating to distinct communications issues.
- particpate in an internal discussion listserv designed to be a team-building/information sharing/problem-solving tool for Rutgers' communications community.
