As a volunteer for a group serving Mexican immigrants, Risha Foulkes got a firsthand look at the daily challenges faced by low-wage workers. Now Risha has been named a Skadden Fellow, one of the country’s foremost public interest fellowship programs; described as a legal Peace Corps by the
Los Angeles Times, the fellowship provides employment for two years at the graduating student’s sponsoring organization. Risha will be working at the ACLU Women’s Rights Project, engaging in advocacy, litigation, and training to protect the health and safety of immigrant women in farm and nail salon jobs in New York and New Jersey.
“I feel fortunate to have attended a law school where the student body reflects the diversity of the surrounding community,” says Risha. “Going to Rutgers has made practicing public interest law feel like a natural choice, rather than the upward swim that it can be at many law schools."
