Carol Ellison
M.A. in English, Graduate School–Newark
Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio
Carol Ellison has appeared on Oprah, she’s been interviewed by NPR’s
All Things Considered, and her articles have appeared in the
Washington Post and the
Christian Science Monitor. Yet Carol, an accomplished journalist with a long list of achievements, turned to Rutgers to explore new directions for her writing.
Much of her work has centered on business, education, and technology—she coauthored or contributed to several books, including
Parents, Kids & Computers—yet in graduate school, she was able to “step back a little bit from journalism and try my hand at creative writing.” Now she has a collection of short stories,
Good Conduct, drawing on her grandmother’s experiences living in a German-American area of Cincinnati through two world wars. “It was just a great way to stretch as a writer,” says Carol, who is also a part-time lecturer in the Writing Program at Rutgers–Newark.
