Robin Laverne Wilson
B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies, Newark College of Arts and Sciences
Hometown: Converse, Texas
Digital filmmaker Robin Laverne Wilson says attending Rutgers was the “best decision” she ever made. She came to Rutgers knowing just what she wanted from the experience—to enrich her artistic vision, gain technical production skills, and hone her business acumen. “I got everything I wanted and more,” she says.
The “more” includes filming in Koobi Fora, Kenya, with the Rutgers Study Abroad program; creating documentaries, one of which will soon air on Current TV; and participating in several top-notch internship experiences, including one at music video channel VH1. One day Robin may be hiring interns herself, as she is fulfilling her Honors College senior thesis by creating New Growth Media, a production company. “My intent is to create media that appeals to the highest common denominator—telling stories that are socially, culturally, and politically relevant,” she says.
