Engineering can be a challenging major, and sometimes you need mentors to help out. At Rutgers, Amy Tsui has been able to rely on a committed and caring faculty to help her excel as a scholar and student leader. One assistant dean, Ilene Rosen, was there for Amy whenever she felt “stressed, happy, sad, or frustrated or just needed some advice.” Professor Shaw S. Wang helped make possible Amy's studies at Yuan Ze University in Taiwan—a “life-changing experience” for her. The engineering deans, Amy says, have been “amazing and truly helpful and supportive” in helping her achieve her goals.
Beyond academics, Amy planned a student-run career fair and started a mentoring program as a leader of the Rutgers chapter of the Society of Women Engineers. “It’s helped me be a better leader and person,” she says of the group. Next up for Amy? A research internship at MIT.
